Over the years, the Tofield Library and The Write Group have partnered to help local writers laud their craft. We host book readings, writing workshops and other activities.
These Author Visits tend to draw a small crowd and add to the diversity of programs the library and our group offer.
Each month, the library and our group plan to welcome a new local writer to plug their work or teach their craft. We invite you to participate in these visits, as audience members and perhaps as guest speakers. The Author Visit Series provides us opportunities to meet new writers, share our own writing and practise presenting in front of people. It is great PR for the writers, the library, our group and the town. We get to showcase that our group and the library are active and fun to participate in. And the public gets to enjoy visits from local writers and discover new works.

Here are some authors who presented at our Author Visits.
Book Readings and Writing Workshops (2015 – 2016)
- Judith Graves held a horror and thriller workshop in October of 2015.
- Dan Gillis, one of our own, read from his debut fantasy novel, Sapling: The Blade of Ahtol, and discussed writing, editing and publishing with his audience in February 2016.
- Alison Clarke held a communal storytelling workshop in October 2016.
Author Visits Series (2023 +)
- In April 2023, Myrna L. Mercy read from her debut contemporary fiction / romance novel, The Sound of Crickets, and she discussed how she wrote and published it and her plans to write spin-off novels from it. She also had a door prize draw and held a Q&A about story, craft, writing tips, and her writing life and development.
- In May 2023, Tofield’s Delanie Tiedemann read from her young adult fantasy, The Jump. She fielded tremendous sci-fi and craft questions from the audience in two Q&A sessions.

There is much writing to celebrate and to be proud of in Tofield and the surrounding area. We have a vibrant writing community and a welcoming, supportive writing group. The Tofield Library and The Write Group are honoured to serve our community and proud to present programs such as the Author Visit Series.
