One thing I learned from oil painting is that every mistake is an opportunity. A black splotch becomes a bird — just add wings. A green slash becomes a ray of sunlight through stained glass or a leaf or a drop of water — just add the stained glass, leaf or drop. The best part is these added fixes and these mistakes add character and story to the painting. Layers on layers. Depth and originality. These are the things that liven art.
