Event: Edmonton Story Slams

Where: The Mercury Room and Blue Chair Diner, Edmonton, Alberta
When: Every 3rd and 2nd Wednesday, sign up starts at 7:00 pm, slam begins at 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm

The Edmonton Story Slam, at the Mercury Room, is a competitive storytelling competition with no censorship. Up to 10 story tellers compete with 5 random audience members judging every third Wednesday. During the intermission, a hat is circulated. The winner of the slam takes home the money from the hat and competes in the March Slam Off. There is no fee to attend, though a donation for the winner is appreciated. Writers pay $5 to compete; the money supports the Edmonton Story Slam Society. Novice and professional writers are welcome. The slam provides a supportive environment for writers to gather to celebrate their craft in an uncensored environment. Expect a great atmosphere, excellent beverages, quality stories and fun competition. Minors are permitted (language and content warning).

The Blue Chair Diner also holds a story slam, Slam @ the Chair, that occurs every second Wednesday of each month (except August). This is more PG-rated than the slam at the Mercury Room (no swearing). A Slam Off is held when the slate is filled, about once a year.

These story slams and slam offs culminate at the Edmonton Storytelling Festival.
